A 300-hour yoga teacher training is a top-up, not a starting point. It exists for teachers who already hold an RYT 200 and want to reach the 500-hour level. You cannot use it as a first qualification, and a 300-hour course on its own does not make you a registrable yoga teacher.

The harder question, once you are eligible, is whether a general 300-hour programme will actually change what you can get hired to teach. Often it does not.

Who the 300 Hour Is Actually For

  • Teachers heading for RYT 500. The 300 is the second block in the 200 plus 300 plus documented teaching hours stack. The route is broken down in the 500-hour pathway guide.
  • Teachers who want a second format. Adding a genuinely different, in-demand style to an existing credential can widen the slots you can cover.
  • Teachers whose first training was thin. Some people finish a 200-hour course knowing they were not actually taught to teach. A well-chosen 300 can repair that.

Notice what is missing from that list: anyone who simply wants more hours on paper. Hours are not the product. Capability is.

Specialisation Beats Breadth at This Level

Most online 300-hour programmes widen rather than deepen. You add more philosophy, more anatomy, exposure to another couple of traditions. That reads well on a biography and changes very little on a timetable, because a studio manager filling a slot is not looking for a broader teacher. They are looking for someone who can reliably deliver a specific class.

A fixed-format method is the sharper investment for exactly that reason. Hot 26&2 runs 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in the same order every class, taught from a scripted verbal dialogue, in a room at around 40 degrees Celsius. Because every 26&2 studio worldwide runs the identical sequence and script, the skill travels. You are not asking a studio to trust your taste, you are demonstrating script accuracy and timing, which are objectively assessable.

It is also the reason this method holds up under distance learning while most do not. Mastery here is memorisation and delivery precision, a rehearsal skill that self-paced repetition suits better than a weekly group call. The full argument is in why 26 and 2 online training is not like other online YTT.

What to Check in Any Online 300 Hour Programme

  • Is the school an RYS 300? RYS 200 registration does not cover 300-hour training. Check the specific registration level in the Yoga Alliance directory.
  • What concrete capability do you leave with? If the answer is a list of topics rather than a thing you can teach, that is a warning.
  • Does it count as YACEP continuing education? Useful if you also need to satisfy the 30 hours every three years that maintaining an RYT requires.
  • Can you preview real course material? Not a sales reel. A full lecture and a full demonstration.
  • Is access permanent? Advanced material is worth returning to for years. Twelve-month access quietly removes most of its value.

Where YogaFX Fits

YogaFX is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School specialising in Hot 26&2, operating from Seminyak and Canggu, Bali since 2017. The curriculum was built by Mr. Ian Terry, E-RYT 500, who trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, directly with Bikram Choudhury, the founder of the Bikram Hot 26&2 method, has logged over 12,000 hours of practical teacher training, and has certified more than 1,500 graduates from over 80 countries. In June 2026 he was appointed Master Trainer of the Republic of Indonesia Yogasana Sports Federation.

For an existing RYT 200 holder, the practical move is usually to add the Hot 26&2 method itself rather than another generalist block. The online course is USD 329, or 4 interest-free payments of USD 82, and includes the complete dialogue in workbook and MP3 form, full posture demonstrations with World Champion Miss Ivara, 15 premium lectures with assessments, a 250-page manual, and lifetime access. The RYT-200 or YACEP designation upgrade pathway is available.

Your fee is credited in full against the live 6-day MasterClass in Bali if you add it later, so starting online costs nothing if you eventually train in person. You can sample the course free before deciding.

FAQ

Can I do a 300-hour yoga teacher training without a 200-hour first?

No. The 300-hour is designed as an advanced top-up for teachers who already hold an RYT 200. Without the 200-hour foundation the hours do not combine into an RYT 500, and the 300 alone does not qualify you to register as a teacher.

Does a 300-hour training make me more employable?

Only if it gives you something concrete you can teach. Additional general hours rarely change which slots a studio will offer you. Training in a specific, portable format that studios actively schedule tends to have a far more direct effect on hiring.

Can a 300-hour programme be completed entirely online?

Much of the coursework can be, at a school registered as an RYS 300. What online study cannot supply is the documented teaching hours the RYT 500 designation requires, since those must be real classes you taught and can evidence.

Does a 300-hour course count as continuing education?

It can, if delivered by a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider. An RYT must complete 30 hours of continuing education every three years, so checking YACEP status lets one investment serve both your 500-hour goal and your ongoing registration requirement.
