Men’s Yoga Teacher Training: Inside YogaFX’s Bali Hybrid Program

Men’s yoga teacher training at YogaFX is a 6-day hybrid MasterClass in Bali, led by Mr. Ian Terry, E-RYT 500. You study online first, then train in person from Sunday to Friday. Graduates earn a Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and a Bikram Hot 26&2 200-hour certificate. The next batch checks in on 24 January 2027.

This guide to men’s yoga teacher training is written for the man who is still deciding. You may practise already. You may be wondering whether a room full of trainees will suit you, whether the heat is too much, or whether teaching is a realistic second career. Below you will find the real format, the numbers behind it, what the research says, and what graduates tell us.

What Men’s Yoga Teacher Training Looks Like at YogaFX

Our men’s yoga teacher training has two parts, and both count toward your certificates. First comes the Pre-Course Preparation, which you complete at home on your own schedule. Then comes the 6-day intensive at Soham Wellness Center in Seminyak, with check-in on Sunday 24 January 2027 and check-out on Friday 29 January 2027.

  • Online first. You study the philosophy, anatomy and posture dialogue at home, so you arrive prepared instead of overwhelmed.
  • Six days in person. Every day is spent practising, teaching and being corrected in the room.
  • Two certificates. You leave with Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and the Bikram Hot 26&2 200-hour International Yoga Certification.
  • One lead trainer. Mr. Ian Terry leads the training himself, with his senior team beside him.

That structure matters for men with jobs, families or businesses, and it is why men’s yoga teacher training in a hybrid format works so well. A month away is hard to arrange. Five days off work isn’t. As a result, many men who would never join a four-week residential course can say yes to this one.

Who leads the men’s yoga teacher training matters more than the brochure. Mr. Ian Terry holds the E-RYT 500 credential and has taught more than 12,000 hours. He trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, alongside the founder of the Bikram Hot 26&2 method. He is also a Master Trainer of the Republic of Indonesia Yogasana Sports Federation. Since 2017, YogaFX has graduated 1,500+ teachers from 80+ countries.

Why More Men Want to Teach Yoga

Yoga has long been seen as a women’s practice. The national numbers still show it. In 2022, 10.3% of US men practised yoga, against 23.3% of women, according to the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. That gap is also an opening, because a man who teaches becomes a role model for the next one.

YogaFX sees that opening in its own enrolment forms. Every applicant fills one in, so we can count how many are men. The share moved sharply after 2021:

YearMale share of applicantsChange against 2021
201911%Not applicable
20217%Baseline
202228%+300%
202323%+229%
202425%+257%
202513%+86%
Table 1. Men as a share of YogaFX enrolment forms, 2019 to 2025 (YogaFX internal data; no forms held for 2020).

Read the table with care. YogaFX is a specialist academy, so a handful of applicants can move the share by several points. The number of men applying rose from 1 in 2021 to 17 in 2024. What matters is the shape: a step change in 2022 that held for three years, and a 2025 share that is still nearly double 2021.

Our article on whether men can do hot yoga looks at the practice side of that story. This page looks at the next step, which is men’s yoga teacher training.

Who the Men Are: A Profile From Our Enrolment Forms

We analysed the forms of 41 men who applied. The picture is not the young gym regular you might expect. It looks like this:

44
Median age
The typical male applicant is in mid-life, not in his twenties.
68%
Aged 40 or over
Two in three want to stay strong and mobile as they age.
83%
Already practise
They have tried the heat and want to go deeper.
59%
Want to teach
They hope to teach or share the practice with others.

The backgrounds are mixed. Forms and conversations with Mr. Ian show:

  • A professional footballer planning life after the game.
  • Wellness coaches, gym instructors and a boxing champion.
  • An aspiring doctor who would rather teach yoga for injury prevention than prescribe pills.
  • Business owners, veterans, office workers and long-distance lorry drivers.
  • Experienced teachers who want to master the dialogue.

Different as they are, these men share a pattern: long hours sitting, driving or straining, high stress, and a wish to protect their bodies for later life.

What men say they want

Men and women give different reasons for choosing YogaFX. Men are more likely to want better postures, to name Mr. Ian as a reason, and to describe a career change. Women are far more likely to value the short format.

In their own words, one 51-year-old applicant wrote about healthy ageing towards a mobile lifestyle and encouraging others by example. Another simply wrote that he wants to get more guys into yoga.

What You Do in the 6 Days

A fixed sequence suits many men, so men’s yoga teacher training built on one sequence feels clear from day one. Every class follows the same 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, in the same order, guided by a set dialogue. Because nothing changes, progress is easy to see. That is also why the teacher’s precision matters so much, and why the training spends so much time on it.

A posture clinic during the intensive. Trainees watch, take notes and ask questions.

Trainees are encouraged to put knowledge into practice early. One graduate wrote that he arrived as a beginner and learned the sequence, the dialogue and how to teach on stage in two weeks. Another said the students were encouraged to teach during the training, not just listen.

The dialogue is the hard part

Most men expect the heat to be the challenge. Many find the dialogue harder, and that’s normal. You must memorise a long script and deliver it calmly while hot, tired and watched. That is why the online preparation exists. You meet the words at home first, so the six days can focus on delivery. You won’t be learning a script from scratch under pressure.

Our guide to the 6-day hybrid format walks through the structure in more detail, including how the online and in-person parts connect.

How Men’s Yoga Teacher Training Fits a Training Mindset

Many men already lift, run or ride. They don’t need a softer option. They want something demanding enough to respect and simple enough to measure. Men’s yoga teacher training in the Hot 26&2 method offers that, because the sequence never changes and the effort is easy to track from one class to the next.

YogaFX‘s position is that one 90-minute hot room class brings strength, cardio work, mobility, heat and mental training into a single session. A man would normally book five separate activities for that. For example, he might run, stretch, lift, sit in a sauna and meditate. The hot room asks for one class instead.

A teacher training adds another layer. You don’t only do the sequence. You learn why each posture is built the way it is, how to cue it, and how to correct someone else. As a result, your own practice improves as well. That is why 34% of the men who apply say they want to improve their own postures, against 20% of women.

What the Science Says

Men often ask for proof before they commit to men’s yoga teacher training. The research on heated yoga is real, but it has limits, and you should know both.

Mood and mental health

A randomised trial from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School tested 90-minute heated yoga classes in adults with moderate-to-severe depression. After 8 weeks, 59.3% of the yoga group had a symptom reduction of 50% or more, against 6.3% of the waitlist group. The study appeared in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry (Nyer et al., 2023).

There is a catch for men. Of the 65 people analysed, 81.5% were women, so the results were not reported separately for men. It also tested attendees, not teacher trainees. So treat it as evidence that the practice can help mood, not as a promise.

Strength and flexibility

In a controlled study at a heated studio, healthy young adults did 24 Bikram classes in 8 weeks.

Compared with a control group, they gained deadlift strength, much better lower back and hamstring flexibility, and a modest drop in body fat. The study (Tracy and Hart, 2013, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research) was small, with 10 people in the yoga group, so it is a signal rather than a verdict.

Heat is a real load

A hot room raises your heart rate. Men with heart disease or high blood pressure should see a doctor before they start.

In our own forms, 19% of male applicants disclosed a medical condition or medication, most often high blood pressure. Build up gradually, rest when you need to, and replace the fluid you lose. This article is general information, not medical advice, so please consult a healthcare professional about your own situation.

What Graduates Say About the Training

Reviews tell you what a brochure cannot, and they matter when you choose men’s yoga teacher training. These come from verified YogaFX Google reviews. We use first names only.

“Awesome training experience. Ian and his team are great and the event was really well organised. I was honoured to share this experience with such a great group of fellow teachers.”

Chris, Google review, 2024

“I arrived in Bali one version of myself and left as another. More confident. More embodied. More connected. More trusting of my voice and my path.”

Sophie, Google review, 2026

“What a gift I was given to have such a beautiful experience change how I see myself in so many profound ways!”

Arianti, Google review, 2018

Across platforms, YogaFX has 150 Google reviews, 50 Yoga Alliance reviews and 357 YouTube testimonials. Mr. Ian’s own name sits behind every one of them.

Is Men’s Yoga Teacher Training Right for You?

Be honest with yourself before you book. This men’s yoga teacher training tends to suit you if:

  • You already practise and want to understand the sequence from the teacher’s side.
  • You want a second career or a side income, and you can take five days off work.
  • You like structure, clear standards and measurable progress.
  • You want to teach men who feel out of place in other yoga rooms.
  • You are happy to learn from a teacher who corrects you directly.

It may not suit you if you want a slow, month-long retreat with free afternoons. The six days are full. You may also want to build your practice for a few more months first. Speak with Mr. Ian before you decide. Every applicant has a personal call with him, and it can run up to an hour and a half.

Cost, Dates and How to Start

The Early Bird price for men’s yoga teacher training is US$1,899, which is US$100 below the normal US$1,999. Instalments start from US$250 per month with no interest, so you can match payments to your monthly budget. Our page on pricing and deposit lists exactly what the fee includes.

Here is the simplest route from interest to enrolment in our men’s yoga teacher training:

  • Message Mr. Ian on WhatsApp and ask your questions.
  • Check the dates on the course dates page.
  • Start the online preparation once your place is confirmed.
  • Fly to Bali for check-in on Sunday and train through to Friday.

Ask for the current availability when you message. The training is independent of any other organisation, and Mr. Ian leads it himself.

FAQ

Are male yoga teachers in demand?

We cannot quote a national hiring figure. What we can say is that only 10.3% of US men practise yoga, against 23.3% of women. That gap suggests room for more male voices. A male teacher can reach the men who feel out of place in other yoga rooms.

How long does men’s yoga teacher training take at YogaFX?

The intensive lasts six days, from Sunday check-in to Friday check-out in Bali. Before that you complete the online Pre-Course Preparation at home at your own pace. That hybrid design means you need about five days off work, not a month away from your life.

How much does yoga teacher training cost at YogaFX?

The Early Bird price is US$1,899, which is US$100 below the normal US$1,999. Instalments start from US$250 per month with no interest. The pricing and deposit page on our website lists what the course fee includes, so you can compare before you commit.

What do you learn in a 200-hour yoga teacher training?

You study philosophy, anatomy and the posture dialogue online, then practise, teach and receive corrections during the intensive. You leave able to teach the 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, with a Yoga Alliance RYT 200 credential and the Bikram Hot 26&2 200-hour certificate.

Is this an official Bikram Choudhury teacher training?

No. YogaFX is an independent training, not an official Bikram Choudhury teacher training. Mr. Ian Terry trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, with the founder of the method, and now leads his own academy in Bali. Graduates earn Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and the YogaFX Hot 26&2 certificate.

Still have questions? Message Mr. Ian and the YogaFX team on WhatsApp and we will answer them personally.
