Yoga Continuing Education With Mr Ian Terry: MasterClass and Graduate Support

Yoga continuing education is training you take after your certificate to keep teaching well and to keep your registration current. At YogaFX, Mr Ian Terry, E-RYT 500, teaches the 6-day MasterClass in Bali for graduates and already-certified teachers, and our team stays reachable after you leave.

That is the short answer. This guide explains what continuing education really is, what a registered teacher needs to check with Yoga Alliance, and what the MasterClass week looks like. It also covers who it suits and how to ask the right questions before you pay a deposit. Mr Ian wrote the plan around one idea: a certificate is the start of your teaching, not the end of your learning.

What yoga continuing education actually means

Most teachers meet the phrase on their first day after graduation. You finish a 200-hour course, you register, and then someone mentions that you will need to keep learning. That is yoga continuing education in plain terms: structured learning beyond your first certificate. It’s the habit that separates a teacher who repeats a script from one who understands it.

It comes in a few shapes. Some teachers take yoga continuing education workshops on anatomy or sequencing. Others take a week-long immersion with one senior teacher. A third group joins a mentoring programme and learns while they teach. All three count as education, but they feel very different, so it helps to know which one you are buying.

A quiet fourth shape is easy to miss. You return to the teacher who trained you and rework what you learned the first time. Mr Ian has seen this often with graduates. The first training teaches you the dialogue and the postures. The second pass teaches you why they work, much like rereading a favourite book. We call this second-look learning, and it’s the heart of the MasterClass.

Registration, credits and who decides

Yoga Alliance is the registry most teachers use, so its rules set the baseline. Its Standards for Registered Yoga Teachers say members must complete continued education hours and pay annual membership dues. The page does not list an hour count in the text we read, so check your own member account for the current number before you plan your year.

That matters for anyone searching yoga continuing education credits. Credits are only worth what your registry says they are worth. Rules change, and a blog post from three years ago may be out of date. Treat the registry as the final word and use us for the teaching side of the question. We don’t set your credit rules, and we won’t pretend to.

What a YACEP is

You will also see the term YACEP. Yoga Alliance describes its Continuing Education Providers as experienced yoga professionals offering advanced learning, and says Experienced Registered Yoga Teachers in good standing can apply. The same Standards page says a registered E-RYT 500 can provide continuing education workshops to other teachers.

So the YACEP Yoga Alliance certification route is not a shortcut for anyone. It sits on top of years of teaching. When you shop for a workshop, ask who the provider is, what level they hold, and how many hours they have actually taught.

Who teaches the MasterClass: Mr Ian Terry

A continuing education week is only as good as the person at the front of the room. Mr Ian Terry holds E-RYT 500 and has more than 12,000 teaching hours. He trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, with the founder of the Bikram Hot 26&2 method. He is also a Master Trainer for the Republic of Indonesia Yogasana Sports Federation.

Since 2017, YogaFX has trained more than 1,500 teachers from over 80 countries. Mr Ian has been in the room for those classes. A trainee in a Yoga Alliance review put it plainly, and her words are worth reading because they come from someone who had no reason to flatter us.

Classes from the head trainer Ian who attended every session. We had months of pre course information, support and knowlage.

Jilly, Yoga Alliance review, 2019

That sentence describes what we still try to protect. The head trainer teaches. He does not hand the room to an assistant on day three. For a yoga continuing education week, that matters even more, because experienced teachers notice quickly when a session is padded.

The 6-day MasterClass in Bali

The MasterClass is our flagship product. Its full name is the Bikram Hot 26&2 Yoga Teacher Training MasterClass. It runs for six days in a hybrid format, with an online pre-course and then an intensive in Bali. Guests check in on Sunday and check out on Friday, so you need only five days off work.

The next batch checks in on Sunday 24 January 2027 and checks out on Friday 29 January 2027. It runs at the Soham Wellness Center in Seminyak. Dates and venues can change, so confirm them with the team before you book flights.

The certification attached to the course is Yoga Alliance RYT 200-Hour plus the Bikram Hot 26&2 200-Hour International Yoga Certification. For a teacher who already holds a certificate, there is a YACEP option. Ask us how it applies to your registration, because it depends on where you stand today.

What the class itself is like

Each class lasts 90 minutes in a room held at 40 degrees Celsius and 40% humidity. The heat is natural tropical heat, not an electric heater. The teacher follows a scripted dialogue. There is no demonstration and no music, so the words do the guiding.

For a working teacher, this is the useful part. You can feel the dialogue from the student’s side, then study how it is built. Many graduates tell us they only noticed the pacing of the script when they stopped teaching it and started taking it.

Four routes to yoga continuing education with YogaFX

  • New graduate: pick the MasterClass or the online pre-course.
  • Experienced teacher: ask about the YACEP option.
  • Studio owner: ask how to train a team.

Not everyone arrives with the same history. The table below sets out the four routes we see most often. It is a planning aid, not a promise, so use it to decide what to ask on your first message.

Notice that the second column is about you, not about us. Continuing education fails when it is sold to a category. A new graduate who teaches one class a week needs something different from a studio owner who trains staff.

Yoga continuing education workshops: what to ask first

Before you pay for any yoga continuing education workshop, ask five questions. They take two minutes and they save a lot of regret. We suggest them for ours and for anyone else’s.

  • Who is the provider? Ask for their registry level and their teaching hours, not only a job title.
  • What will I leave able to do? A good answer names a skill, such as cueing an injured student, not a mood.
  • Is the registry credit confirmed in writing? Verify it with the registry itself, not only the brochure.
  • How much of the week is practice and how much is lecture? Teachers learn most by teaching and being corrected.
  • What happens after the week ends? Support after the course is where many programmes go quiet.

Run our MasterClass through the same list. We would rather you ask and decide than sign up on a feeling. If the answers do not fit your year, it is fine to wait.

What graduates say after a second look

Some of the best evidence for yoga continuing education comes from people who did the work. Two short reviews from our video testimonials show how it lands. The first comes from a trainee who finished a teacher training with us in 2025.

This experience really exceeded my expectations. It was not only a physical challenge, but an emotional roller coaster from the beginning. (Condensed from the video transcript.)

Annalisa, YouTube review, 2025

The second is shorter and blunter. It comes from a graduate on the day he received his certificate.

It changed my brain, changed my mind, changed my body, changed my future. (Condensed from the video transcript.)

Erick, YouTube review, 2024

Reviews are not proof of a result, and they are not a promise about yours. Still, they show the tone of the room. If you want more, read our yoga teacher training reviews analysis, where we count how often students name Mr Ian.

Graduate support after the certificate

Continuing education is not only a course you buy. It is also the support you get between courses. A teacher in her third month often has one question that no textbook answers, such as how to handle a student who stops mid-class.

YogaFX graduates can reach the team with questions like that. Because the offer can change, we ask you to confirm the current scope on WhatsApp instead of trusting a page that might be out of date. Mr Ian reads the harder questions himself.

If you are thinking about what comes next in your career, our guide to career options after yoga teacher training shows common paths. If you are still deciding between formats, the hybrid yoga teacher training in Bali page explains how the online and in-person halves fit together.

Why yoga continuing education matters for working teachers

Skills fade without use, and habits form fast. A teacher who delivers the same class forty times a year starts to hear her own voice more than her students. Yoga continuing education resets that. You get a fresh pair of eyes on your cueing, your pacing and the way you read a room.

There is a business reason too. Studios and retreat hosts notice who keeps learning. A teacher who can say she trained again with a senior teacher this year, and can explain what she changed, is easier to hire. That is not a guarantee of work, but it is a fair signal.

Finally, there is the plain pleasure of being a student again. Many of our graduates say the best part of a return week is that nobody needs anything from them. They arrive, practise, listen and go home with two or three ideas that change their next class.

  • Cueing: learn which words help a tired student and which ones add noise.
  • Pacing: practise holding a 90-minute dialogue steady from start to finish.
  • Adjustments: see how a senior teacher decides when to speak and when to stay quiet.
  • Self-care: plan your own training load so you can keep teaching for years.

Does heat training help a teacher’s own health?

Teachers burn out. Long days, early classes and hard physical demos wear people down. Part of yoga continuing education is looking after the instrument, which is you. Research on hot yoga is still growing, so we keep our claims modest.

A 2025 systematic review by Willmott and colleagues pulled together 43 studies with 942 participants on Bikram yoga. It reported benefits for flexibility, bone density and well-being, although study quality varies. A 2022 paper by Hui et al. found that hot yoga reduced state anxiety. We cannot link these papers because the hosting sites block automated checks, so please search their titles yourself.

A Johns Hopkins podcast on yoga as exercise says yoga covers both strength and flexibility. It also says yoga adds stress relief that supports overall health. These points suggest why a teacher might keep their own practice alive, not only their teaching.

None of this is medical advice. If you have a heart condition, are pregnant or take medication, speak to a healthcare professional before any hot class. Heat isn’t for everyone, and a good teacher respects that.

Is it worth it? A fair way to decide

Value is personal. For one teacher, a week with Mr Ian is worth it because she wants to teach the dialogue with more confidence. For another, a short online workshop is enough. We would rather you choose the smaller option than buy ours and feel flat.

Here is a simple test. Write down the one thing that frustrated you in your last month of teaching. If a six-day immersion could plausibly fix it, ask us how. If the answer is a cheaper workshop, take that route and come back later.

The price of the MasterClass is published on our site and in our messages. The Early Bird price is US$1,899 and the normal price is US$1,999, with instalments from US$250 per month, interest-free. Ask the team which room option applies to your booking and what the fee covers for that option before you pay anything.

If you want to see how we handle enquiries, our guide on how to apply for yoga teacher training in Bali walks through the steps. The same steps apply to MasterClass bookings, with a few details that change for graduates.

How to start

Send one message. It doesn’t need to be long. Tell us your current registry level, how long you have been teaching and what you want to fix. Mr Ian or a coordinator will reply with the next batch, the format and what is included at the time you ask.

Disclaimer: this article is general information, not medical or legal advice. Registry rules change, so confirm credits and hours with Yoga Alliance directly. Consult a healthcare professional before starting any heated exercise.

FAQ: common questions about this topic

What counts as yoga continuing education and credits?

It is structured learning after your first certificate, such as workshops, immersions or mentoring. Whether it counts toward your registration depends on your registry’s current rules, so check your member account before you pay. We can tell you what the MasterClass teaches, and the registry decides the credit.

Can I take the MasterClass if I am already certified?

Yes, there is a YACEP option for teachers who already hold a certificate. How it applies depends on your registry status and goals. Message the team on WhatsApp with your level and teaching history, and we will tell you which route fits and what the current terms are.

What is a YACEP?

Yoga Alliance describes YACEPs as experienced yoga professionals who offer advanced learning. Experienced Registered Yoga Teachers in good standing can apply. When you shop for a workshop, ask the provider about their level and teaching hours, and confirm the credit in writing before you pay.

How long is the MasterClass and where is it?

It is a 6-day hybrid format with an online pre-course and a Bali intensive. The next batch checks in Sunday 24 January 2027 and checks out Friday 29 January 2027 at the Soham Wellness Center in Seminyak. Always confirm dates and venue with the team before booking travel.

Do I need to be able to do every posture?

No. Mr Ian teaches students of mixed experience, and a good teacher adapts the work to the body in front of them. If you have an injury or medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional first and tell us before the week starts.
