Original Hot Yoga Teacher Training at YogaFX: Format and Dual Certificate

Original hot yoga teacher training teaches you to lead the fixed Original Hot 26&2 class: 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises and a scripted dialogue. At YogaFX in Bali, you study online first. Then you spend six days in Seminyak and graduate with two certificates: Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and Bikram Hot 26&2 200-Hour.

This guide is for two kinds of reader: the career changer weighing a first teacher training, and the serious practitioner who wants to learn the method properly. Mr Ian Terry, E-RYT 500, runs the programme, so everything below comes from how he actually runs it.

What Original Hot Yoga Teacher Training Actually Teaches

A class in this method is the same every time. It lasts 90 minutes, in a room at about 40 degrees Celsius and 40 percent humidity. The teacher speaks a script, called the dialogue, from the first breathing exercise to the last posture. There is no demonstration and no music, so a teacher does the whole job with words, timing and eyes.

That changes what a teacher training has to cover. You don’t learn to design creative flows. Instead, you learn to deliver one sequence precisely, spot errors in a hot room and keep a class safe for 90 minutes.

  • The 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. You study alignment, purpose and common errors in each one, from Ardha Chandrasana in the standing series to the floor series.
  • The dialogue. You memorise it first, then drill pace, volume and pauses until it sounds like speaking instead of reciting.
  • Posture correction. You learn to see what is wrong and give one clear fix that a student can use in the moment.
  • Anatomy and safety. You learn why the spine, knees and hydration matter more in heat.
  • Practice teaching. You lead segments, then a full class, and get feedback from Mr Ian.

Heat is part of the method, not a backdrop. Both YogaFX studios, Seminyak and Canggu, run on natural tropical heat rather than electric heaters. That means you train in the same conditions you will teach in, which is hard to fake in a cool classroom.

How the Six-Day Original Hot Yoga Teacher Training Works

The format of this original hot yoga teacher training is hybrid. You complete exclusive pre-course preparation at home, then fly to Bali for the practical intensive. Mr Ian built it for people with jobs, so you won’t need weeks away. Check-in is on a Sunday and check-out on a Friday, so you need just five days off work.

Why Online First Works

For the hour-by-hour schedule, read our walk-through of the 6-day intensive. Here, the point is simpler: the online phase moves theory out of the room, so Bali time goes on the parts that need a live trainer.

The Dual Certificate: Yoga Alliance RYT 200 Plus Bikram Hot 26&2

Original hot yoga teacher training at YogaFX ends with two certificates. The first is Yoga Alliance RYT 200, the registry credential that many studios ask for. YogaFX has been a Yoga Alliance registered school since February 2018. The second is the Bikram Hot 26&2 200-Hour International Yoga Certification, which shows you were trained to teach this exact sequence and dialogue.

Why both? One opens doors in general studios. The other proves method-specific training. Earning them together also saves time and money compared with collecting each separately. For the full breakdown, see how the dual certification works.

How to Check Any Original Hot Yoga Teacher Training Before You Pay

The word original appears on many websites. It’s a description, not a standard that every school shares. So check the facts yourself before you pay a deposit.

  • Registry status. Search the school and the lead trainer in the Yoga Alliance directory, then note what each one holds.
  • Lineage. Ask who trained the lead trainer, when and for how long. Mr Ian trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, with the founder of the Bikram Hot 26&2 method.
  • Total time to certified. Add the classroom weeks to any internship that follows. Some programmes need an internship of 6 months to 2 years before a final level.
  • Reviews in the trainer’s own name. Studio reviews describe the room. You also want to read what students say about the person teaching you.
  • Heat source. Natural heat and electric heat feel different, and a teacher has to manage both.
  • Graduate outcomes. Ask what graduates went on to do. Few schools publish this.

We ran these checks against public records ourselves. Our report on the Original Hot Yoga Association and its trainings covers one such label. It found a 240-hour minimum and an internship of 6 months to 2 years that the association says is not part of training. It also found 4 of the 19 linked trainings registered with Yoga Alliance.

The report reads the records fairly, and it shows what a label can and cannot tell you. YogaFX is independent of that association.

What Research Says About Heated Yoga, and What It Does Not

Teachers get health questions every week, so it helps to know the evidence.

A 2025 systematic review in Sports Medicine – Open by Willmott and colleagues looked at 43 studies with 942 participants. It found that regular hot yoga may support bone mineral density, balance and flexibility. However, it also warned that claims of greater benefit than other yoga or exercise are, for now, unsubstantiated. Case reports describe ill-health after hot yoga too. We agree with that caution.

On mood, a randomised trial from Massachusetts General Hospital, published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in 2023, tested heated yoga in adults with moderate-to-severe depression. Over 8 weeks, 59.3% of the yoga group had a symptom drop of 50% or more, against 6.3% of the waitlist group (Nyer et al., 2023). That is one trial, and yoga does not replace medical care.

This is general information, not medical advice. Please consult a healthcare professional before starting intense heat practice, especially if you have heart or blood pressure concerns or are pregnant. Good training teaches you the same habit: describe what studies found, avoid promises of results and send students to their doctor.

Inside Mr Ian’s Classroom: Dialogue, Lineage and Feedback

Mr Ian Terry leads the original hot yoga teacher training at YogaFX in person, and he has taught more than 12,000 hours.

He holds the E-RYT 500 level with Yoga Alliance and serves as a Master Trainer of the Republic of Indonesia Yogasana Sports Federation. He also trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, with the founder of the Bikram Hot 26&2 method. He has led YogaFX since 2017.

Feedback is what sets the week apart. On day 5, you teach in front of your cohort, and Mr Ian corrects you while the mistake is fresh. As a result, you leave knowing exactly which habits to fix, not just a general sense that you did fine.

He also speaks to every student before enrolment. On this discovery call he asks about your goals and answers your questions, and some calls run up to an hour and a half. His own view of the investment is simple:

“There can be no greater investment than the one that you make in your health, because without it, nothing else matters.”

Mr. Ian, YogaFX

YogaFX graduates also carry the method into sport. Together, they have won 12 medals at national, Asian and world level: 5 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. That’s a graduate result few schools can show, and it comes from the same attention to precise teaching.

What Trainees Say After the Week

YogaFX has 150 Google reviews, 50 on Yoga Alliance and 357 video testimonials on YouTube. Trainees on this original hot yoga teacher training mention three things most: confidence, a real-world focus and Mr Ian himself. These two reviews show it.

“I came in nervous and leaving certified and confident.”

Xuan, Google review, 2026

“The training and advice he gave is utterly applicable to a real world teaching environment.”

Amanda, Yoga Alliance review, 2019

Helen, in a 2024 Google review, called the teaching high quality and Ian Terry truly inspirational, and she gave the training a 10 out of 10 recommendation.

How to Prepare Before You Fly to Bali

Preparation for original hot yoga teacher training decides how the week feels, so plan it early. Students who arrive with the script half learned and a heat-adapted body spend their energy on teaching. Others just try to survive.

  • Start the online phase early. Most students need two to four weeks, so begin as soon as you enrol.
  • Practise in heat. Attend heated classes several times a week for the months before you travel.
  • Say the dialogue aloud. Reading silently doesn’t build delivery. Record yourself and listen back.
  • Plan a buffer day. Arriving a day early helps with jet lag before your first heated class.
  • Pack for heat. Bring several changes of light practice wear, a large water bottle and a mat you already trust.

Three Mistakes That Slow Trainees Down

Cohorts tend to repeat the same patterns. First, some students plan to learn the script on site, so day 4 overwhelms them. Second, others treat the first heated class as a test and push too hard, then pay for it on day 2. Third, many skip the buffer day, so jet lag and heat hit together. Each one is easy to avoid once you know it.

Who This Training Suits, and Who Should Wait

This original hot yoga teacher training suits you if you want to teach the Original Hot 26&2 class and can commit to one intense week. It also helps studio owners who want every teacher delivering the same class.

  • Career changers who want a recognised first credential without months away from work.
  • Serious practitioners who want to understand why each posture is taught the way it is.
  • Existing teachers who want method-specific training and the YACEP option.
  • Studio owners who need a consistent class and a team that can deliver it.

It may not suit you if you want to design your own flows or teach in a cool room. In that case, a general multi-style training fits better. Likewise, wait if you have a medical concern about heat until a healthcare professional has cleared you. Honest fit matters more than a quick enrolment, which is why Mr Ian talks to every student first.

FAQ

What is original hot yoga teacher training?

It is teacher training for the fixed Original Hot 26&2 class: 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises and a scripted dialogue, taught in a 40 degree room. YogaFX offers it in Bali as an independent training, not an official Bikram Choudhury Teacher Training. Graduates receive Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and a Bikram Hot 26&2 certificate.

How long does original hot yoga teacher training take?

At YogaFX it takes online preparation at home, then six days in Seminyak, with check-in on Sunday and check-out on Friday. Many students spend two to four weeks on the online phase around their jobs. Schools differ, so add up classroom time and any later internship before you compare.

How much is Bikram yoga teacher training in Bali?

The Early Bird price is US$1,899, against the normal price of US$1,999, which saves US$100. An instalment plan can fit your monthly budget. Packages differ, so message Mr Ian on WhatsApp to confirm what is included before you book flights.

Can you do original hot yoga teacher training online?

Partly. The theory, dialogue study and workbooks happen online before you travel. The practical week happens in person in Bali, because posture correction and practice teaching in heat need a live room and a trainer watching. YogaFX also runs a separate online course through its Online Academy.

Can you start original hot yoga teacher training as a complete beginner?

Yes. Many trainees arrive with no teaching experience, and the online pre-course brings everyone to a common baseline. You do need a regular practice and some comfort in heat. Book a discovery call, tell Mr Ian your background, and he will say honestly whether the timing suits you.

Still have questions? Message Mr. Ian and the YogaFX team on WhatsApp and we will answer them personally.
