Mudra Sanskaran. The entire world is made of five elements, Panchatatvas, and they are earth, water, fire, air and ether.
AS LONG AS THERE IS BALANCE amongst them, there is balance in the world; and when any element amongst them become imbalanced, natural catastrophes take place, the consequences of which have to be borne by everyone. The truth is that mankind, is responsible for all imbalances in the Panchatatvas or the FIVE ELEMENTS
💠When the earth element is imbalanced, earthquakes occur.
💠When the water element is imbalanced, floods occur.
💠When the fire element is imbalanced, volcanoes erupt.
💠When the air element is imbalanced, one has to witness the rage of the winds.
💠When the ether element is imbalanced, violent storms, heavy rains and cloud bursts occur.
To balance these situations, Lord Shiva explained some remedies to Parvati, through the medium of mudras.
Just like the earth, our body, too is made up of the five elements. The great Goswami Shri Tulsidasji says in the Ramcharit Manas:
“Chiti jal pavak gagan sameera, Panch rachit ati adham sharira”
Meaning, our body is made of all five elements, and as long as they are balanced within us, one remains, healthy, energetic, strong and balanced. When any of these elements are imbalanced, one becomes a host of ill-health and troubles.
Any kind of illness present in the body is related to one element or another. If we can balance all these elements, we will be free from ill-health. TO BALANCE THE FIVE ELEMENTS is very easy because the five fingers of our hands represent each of the five elements.

The medium of mudras as disclosed by the Great Lord Shiva, helps us not only to stay healthy by balancing the five elements within us, but it is also a medium to gain the divine shaktis, because The Great Lord Bholenath did not disclose this knowledge to keep disease away, but to awaken the unlimited energies within us. Where divine energies can be gained, small common diseases can surely fade.
With the practice of the divine mudras, the disciple can remain free from all illnesses and can awaken some of the divine energies within. To reap the full benefits, one must practice the mudras for 5 to 25 minutes everyday.🧘♀️
1. Gyan Mudra
Bringing the thumb and the index finger together, one comes into the gyan mudra. Aids in the awakening of the Ajna or Third Eye Chakra, and also in curing mental tensions, depression, headaches, migraine, insomnia, anger, irritation, removing laziness and indolence, and increasing the power of tolerance.👌
2. Vayu Mudra
Bend the index finger at the base of the thumb and press that finger down lightly with the thumb. All wind related problems caused by the imbalance of the air element in the body such as pains in the knees, backpain, joint pains etc are cured. STRENGTHENS THE BEAT OF THE HEART, keeps diseases away from the lungs. Prevents arthritis, sciatica and gas related problems.
3. Aakash Mudra
Bending the middle finger, place the thumb on it. This mudra cures all problems related to the ether element. The ether or sky element is present in our throat area. All throat related problems such as thyroid imbalances, tonsils, neck pain, pain in the ears etc can be cured with the practice of this mudra. Increases the power of speech, makes the voice sweet and pleasant.🙂
4. Surya Mudra
Bend the ring finger and hold it down with the thumb.This mudra is related to the fire element. With the practice of this mudra, all health problems such as gas, constipation, acidity, indigestion, cholesterol etc are removed. Digestion power is strengthened and increases appetite. This mudra helps to increase the weight of the thin and weak, and helps to reduce fat in the overweight person.👍
5. Prithvi Mudra
Bringing the ring finger and thumb together makes the Earth Mudra. This mudra is very useful for those suffering from diabetes, it also removes weakness, makes the body sturdy and helps to reduce weight.
6. Varun Mudra
This is also known as the water mudra. In this mudra, lightly touch the tip of the little finger with the tip of the thumb and keep the other fingers straight. This mudra balances the water element in the body, bringing a radiance to the body. Removes skin diseases and KEEPS WRINKLES AWAY. Keeps the heat balanced in the body.
7. Miyo Mudra
Bending the ring and the middle finger, keep the other fingers straight. This mudra is very good for curing blood pressure, whether high or low, both are balanced with this mudra.
8. Prana Mudra
Bringing the ring finger and little finger together, touch the middle finger slightly with the thumb, keeping all other fingers straight. This is Praan mudra. This mudra is very useful for the eyes. Weakness of the eyes is removed, strengthening them. Builds faith in oneself. With the practice of this mudra, the disciple can stay for long periods without food or water.
9. Hridaya Mudra
In this mudra, the index finger is completely folded, keeping the little finger straight, bring the middle and ring finger in contact with the thumb. Very good mudra to practice for people with heart problems. This mudra can save one’s life at the time of heart attack. Holding it for just a few seconds one can ease away a heart attack. This mudra also aids in the balance of the wind element.🌀
10. Apaan Mudra
Slightly touch the tip of the middle and ring finger with the thumb to come into the Apaan mudra. This mudra removes all impurities of the body. Very useful for women during menstruation, especially those who suffer from painful periods. Can be used by pregnant women to have a painless delivery but they should practice this mudra only after the eighth month and not before. Can be practiced for 10 minutes three to four times a day by expecting mothers. This mudra also cures kidney problems.
11. Byaan Mudra
Bringing the tip of first finger and middle finger into contact with the thumb, and holding it with a slight pressure makes the Byaan Mudra. This mudra is good for only those suffering from high blood pressure.❤
12. Ling Mudra
Interlock your fingers keeping only the left thumb up. This mudra creates great heat in the body and so should not be practised in the summers, it can only be practised in the winter period. Immediately removes cold, cough etc.😷
13. Shankh Mudra
Wrap the fingers of your left hand around your right thumb, and bring the hands into the shape of a Shankh or a conch. Corrects any disorders of the throat. Removes arthritis and joint pain.
14. Samaan Vayu Mudra
This mudra brings a BALANCE IN YOUR FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS. Builds up courage and makes the mind peaceful. In this mudra make a fist with both your hands and hold them together, elbows out by the sides.
15. Bhairav Mudra
Place the left palm over the right palm and we are in the Bhairavi Mudra. This mudra is very beneficial for meditation.
